A Certified Applied Animal Behaviorist (CAAB) is an individual that has been board certified through the Animal Behavior Society. CAABs have earned a doctoral degree in Behavioral Psychology, Biology, Zoology, Animal Science, Ethology, or related field. Required coursework ensures candidates have a broad knowledge about behavior in general and specifically applied animal behavior. Each individual graduate program is further enhanced with an interdisciplinary and applied approach, strengthening the education the candidate receives.
In addition to the doctoral program, candidates make original contributions to the field of applied animal behavior including, but not limited to, publications and professional presentations. Lastly, candidates are required to have a minimum of 5 years of hands on experience with a particular species before working with that species.
